Gillian Scott has degrees in Botany and Zoology (PhD) and was a University Lecturer for many years. She 'retired' early from academia to concentrate on botanical art and scientific writing after studying with Mary Grierson on a visit to UK in 1975. She was invited to join The Society of Botanical Artists in 1986 and was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Horticultural Society in 1991 for her paintings of Australian mistletoes. She has since painted many, many pictures of both Australian Native plants and exotic garden plants, many of which she grows herself. Her pictures have been commissioned by both private and corporate collectors, including The Hunt Museum and Dr Shirley Sherwood. She has held several solo exhibitions as well as contributing to joint exhibitions of both The Botanical Art Society of Australia and The Botanical Art Society of Queensland, where she lives. Gillian also writes/edits/co-authors 'popular' books on biological subjects and teaches Botanical Art and Miniature Painting for art groups and collegiate Master Classes, has illustrated publications by other botanists. Her most recent challenge has been to teach a course in 'Botany for Gardeners' for the U3A in her home town. A more detailed CV is available on application.
